Kaia Complete

I drove down from New Haven with no particular loyalty to any studio, just ClassPass credits and a loose plan to hit the Bruce Museum in Greenwich afterward. Kaia Yoga's Westport location is upstairs in a strip mall, which you should know going in. The lobby is a cheerful pile of shoes under a bench, coats on a rolling rack, someone's leopard-print jacket claiming territory, and a "Beginnings" tote bag from Scarsdale spilling out of a fabric bin. A mini-split AC unit hums on the wall below a drop ceiling. It is not curated. It is not trying to be. Then you open the door to the practice room and the scale changes. The studio is enormous for the class size, maybe fifteen of us spread across a space that could hold forty. Morning sun was cutting long diagonals across gray plank floors. Dark blue mats had been pre-set with red bolsters and black blocks. Wicker baskets along the wall held stacked Mexican blankets in every color. There were water stains on a couple of the ceiling tiles, which I noticed only because I spent a fair amount of savasana staring up. None of it mattered once the class started. Claudia Zeller taught the 9 AM "Kaia Complete," a 75-minute format that blends yin, vinyasa flow, and hatha binds. The structure felt more like a sampler platter than a single composed meal, moving between stillness and heat without a strong narrative arc connecting them. That is not necessarily a criticism. If you are the kind of practitioner who gets restless in pure yin or bored in straight vinyasa, the variety keeps you honest. Claudia's style leans verbal over physical. She cues with precision and doesn't over-handle, though she did offer a few hands-on adjustments when the moment called for it. Music was present but not dominant, more texture than soundtrack. The room was gently heated, enough to notice but not enough to suffer. The crowd was mixed in a way that felt unforced. About five men and ten women, a range of ages and skill levels. A couple of women practiced in pricey sports bras. One man went shirtless. Nobody seemed to care. That kind of unselfconsciousness is harder to manufacture than a marble lobby and eucalyptus towels. Kaia has ten-plus locations across Connecticut and one in New York. It is family-owned, women-owned, and has been operating since 2006. The Westport studio has two practice rooms, showers and a small boutique. Parking is right outside. For the Fairfield County corridor, this is the grittier, less performative alternative to the big-box wellness brands, and I mean that as a compliment. The yoga is real. The space is honest. The shoes are everywhere.

She took something im VERY insecure about and made me feel like a model after walking out. She is such a kind soul and the space itself was beautiful. I am a customer for life!!
